Simply A Stacy Evening

Summer evenings have arrived at Stacy Boulevard in Gloucester.
An evening stroll along the boulevard can truly lift the soul.

You may find some in deep thought, staring into the sea,

or you may find happy families, laughing and telling stories.

The Fishermen's Wives Memorial is beautiful, especially at dusk,

as flowers bloom nearby.

Many are walking their canine companions,

although you may wonder who is leading whom.

The bocce game can go on longer with the right equipment!

Simply Fishermen's Wives

The winds were starting to blow and the rain was approaching.
One of those days when the Fishermen's Wives Statue seems to come alive.

The inscription at the base reads
"The wives, mothers, daughters and sisters of Gloucester fishermen honor the wives and families of fishermen and mariners everywhere for their faith, diligence, and fortitude."

Simply Fishermen's Wives

The Gloucester Fishermen's Wives Memorial stands
looking out over the harbor on a late summer morning.

The site was designed by Ann Gilardi Johnson.
The sculpture was created by Morgan Faulds Pike.

"The memorial serves as a testimonial to what wives, mothers, sisters, and children of fishermen of the world have endured because their men chose to be on the water. They had no choice but to stand on rock, to be on land."
-- Angela Sanfilippo at the dedication ceremony on August 5, 2001

Much more information about the Gloucester Fishermen's Wives Memorial can be found at the Gloucester Fishermen's Wives Association website.
