Simply A Pathway

A simple walk along the path to Good Harbor on an October afternoon.

The Path To The Sea
Written by Lucy A. Cain

Clear the way before me Lord
Guide every step I take
Give me courage to journey on
For every mile I make

I only want to walk with You
Lord, on each path You’ll lead
Keep my feet within Your course
For there You’ll know my needs

Others will take the path we trod
The path where You made way
Be a light unto their feet
When they reach the end of day

Guide us on to journey’s end
Where we’ll meet You face to face
Thank You for the journey
That led to Heaven’s place

Sea Fever
Written by John Masefield

I MUST go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a gray dawn breaking.
I must down go to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

An Irish Blessing
As plentiful as the grass that grows
Or the sand on the shore
Or the dew on the lea
So the blessings of the King of Grace
On every soul that was, that is, or will ever be

Simply Spring Has Sprung!

It always seems to take forever to start but this weekend, spring has sprung on Cape Ann! The Friday of school vacation week brought many to Good Harbor Beach to practice up for the summer months.

The artists were present and accounted for as well.

Let's take a closer look. What could they all be painting?

Oh! I see!

Simply Alleluia

Views of Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester during an Easter Sunday Sunrise service.

Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!

Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!

Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!

Simply Splashing!

The tide was coming in and the waves were putting on a splash show. A couple of surfers were out but didn't appear to be catching much.

One of the most often photographed spots in Gloucester.

I managed to catch this splash.

Simply A Gem

The calendar says it's springtime, yet we have a few more weeks to wait before the weather warms. Although it was still a little chilly, you just cannot beat the beauty of Good Harbor.

One Twin Light, all by itself.

Maybe we should rename it "Blue Harbor".

Reflections on Good Harbor.

Simply Grateful

Nothing like a walk (or a surf!) on Good Harbor Beach to take the stress out of preparing a Thanksgiving Feast.

It is very difficult not to take a real look around and be grateful for the beauty of Cape Ann and its community.

Simply Summer Fading Away

Early evening on Labor Day, we travelled down to Good Harbor. It had been a great weekend and we thought we could use "one more walk" on the beach before the unofficial end of summer.

We weren't alone. For a summer that seemed to start and stop many times this year, there were quite a few people still hanging out at the beach, trying to catch that last little bit of summer.

The waves weren't great that evening, although a few were out trying to catch them.

It was dead low tide, which allowed us to walk all the way to Salt Island. A number of people were up on the island taking in the vistas. Here's a look towards the twin lights from the island side.

The end of summer. The end of the day. A boat at rest off the island.

A wide shot as the sun starts to set and the day fades away.

Here's a few "summer colors" caught on this last day of summer. They'll soon be replaced by the autumn ones.

One last look as we leave for the evening.
